This small Inari Jinja is situated in the grounds of the Marishiten Tokudaiji Temple in Tokyo’s bustling Ueno district. The shrine is to the right of the temple building after ascending the stairs. It was built in 1688 by a merchant named Ishibashi Kyushichi (石橋久七) in order to provide a place where people, probably merchants and farmers, could pray for their success and the economic development of what is now the Ameyoko area in Ueno,
Over the succeeding centuries the shrine was allowed to fall into disrepair and was burned down during the Great Tokyo Firebombing in 1945. In January 1983 it was rebuilt in its present location.
