Background

This is a shrine about which very little is known. It is near my house and I visited it with the “Aloe Girls,” a group of homemakers from Higashi Tamagawa where I live. In the attached photo, they are, from left to right, Minami, Hiroko, Yukiko, Yours Truly, Itsuko, and Marico. The photos of the shrine follow the text as usual.

History

I have been unable to find any information about this shrine. There is an information board in front of the shrine, but it is about the Unoki-Ōtsuka Kofun on which

the shrine is sited rather than the shrine itself.

Description

About 10 mins on foot from Yukigaya-ōtsuka Station. A typical neighbourhood shrine it is reasonably well maintained on a day-to-day basis.

Unoki-Ōtsuka Kofun

In 1930 the kofun was designated as a historic site by the then Tōkyō Prefectural government. The area was an outlying part of what was then Unoki village and the kofun therefore became known as the Unoki-Ōtsuka Kofun. It is the easternmost of the Ebaradai Kofun Group, which is composed of the Denenchōfu Kofun and Noge Kofun Groups. It is about 6 m high.
